Argentine Cuisine: Matambre a la Pizza

Matambre a la Pizza is a delicious Argentine dish that combines the best elements of grilled meat and pizza. The tender, juicy beef is topped with a flavorful tomato sauce, melted cheese, and fresh herbs. Ingredients (Serves 4)

Matambre

  • 1000 g        beef matambre (flank or belly cut)
  • 2 tbsp         olive oil
  • 1 tsp            salt
  • 1/2 tsp        freshly ground black pepper

Toppings

  • 250 ml        tomato sauce
  • 200 g          mozzarella
  • 1 tsp            oregano
  • 10                fresh basil leaves
  • 1                  bell pepper, cut into strips
  • 1                  onion, sliced into rings

Preparation

  1. Rub the beef matambre with olive oil and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  2. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Place the matambre on the grill and cook for about 20 minutes, turning occasionally, until fully cooked and lightly browned.
  3. Remove the grilled matambre from the grill and place it on a baking tray. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the meat.
  4. Sprinkle the grated mozzarella over the tomato sauce. Top with dried oregano, fresh basil leaves, bell pepper strips, and onion rings.
  5. Place the baking tray in a preheated oven at 200°C (top/bottom heat) and bake for about 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and lightly browned.
  6. Remove the Matambre a la Pizza from the oven and let it rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
