Greenlandic cuisine – Kalaallit Nunaat

A traditional dish from Greenland that captures the flavors of the North. Tender reindeer meat is combined with fresh berries and herbs to create a unique explosion of flavors. The hearty wildness of the meat is balanced by the sweet freshness of the berries, while the herbs add an earthy note. This dish is a true feast for the senses and lets you experience the rugged beauty of Greenland on your plate.

Ingredients for 4 servings

  • 500 g           reindeer meat
  • 200 g          blueberries
  • 200 g           lingonberries
  • 1 tbsp          thyme
  • 1 tbsp          rosemary
  • 1 tsp           salt
  • 1 tsp           pepper
  • 2 tbsp         olive oil

Preparation

  1. Cut the reindeer meat into small pieces and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a pan and sear the meat over high heat.
  3. Add the berries and cook for another 5 minutes.
  4. Add the thyme and rosemary and mix everything well together.
  5. Reduce the heat and let the dish simmer for 2 hours until the meat is tender.
  6. Season to taste with salt and pepper and serve.
