Fish casserole
600 g fish fillet (cod, pollock, or haddock)
800 g potatoes
1 onion
2 cloves garlic
2 tbsp flour
50 g butter
500 ml milk
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
½ tsp nutmeg
150 g grated Edam cheese
Preparation
- Peel the potatoes and cut them into thin slices.
- Rinse the fish, pat dry, and cut into bite-sized pieces.
- Finely chop the onion and garlic.
- Melt the butter in a pan, add the flour, and stir well.
- Slowly add the milk while stirring constantly until a creamy sauce forms.
- Add the onion and garlic to the sauce and let it simmer. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
- Grease a large baking dish and layer the potato slices, fish pieces, and sauce alternately.
- Sprinkle the grated cheese over the casserole and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (392°F) for about 45 minutes, until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is golden brown.
